Here Comes Soundaware's New Flagship DAP-M2pro
Dec 8, 2018 at 6:07 AM Post #46 of 72
So I had a chance to do some A/B today with the AK300 and QPR1. Sound wise I think the M2Pro compares very well to both! The QPR1 sounds a little airier but the UI and controls are very frustrating IMO. I found navigating much easier on the M2Pro. I do prefer the touchscreen controls and UI on the AK300 rather than the M2Pro's capacitive buttons but thought they both sound quite similar.

I also got to test the M2Pro with the UM 3DD-Ti, Lark Studio LSX and Earsonics EM10 (awful universal shell!) and am happy to say it's very transparent and has great dynamics. It has a very black background with no discernible hiss, even on medium gain. I'd say my favourite pairings so far are the EM10 and IE800S.

The M2Pro continues to impress me with almost anything I pair with it. Today it's the Brainwavz B400 and listening to one of my favourite albums "Golevka" by The Evpatoria Report. I am just blown away at how good this DAP and combo sounds.

I like its idea... but $1100 price tag is way too high for what it is.
Does it really worth more than Sony WM1A? ZX300?
I don't think so. It comes with 100 times worse design, quality, branding than Sony.

$1100 looks like a scam.. I think this device may worth $150 max.
Some companies like Hifiman have been showing us abnormally high pricing. This one falls into that category.

$150 are you serious? Did you actually read the first post in this thread? The M2Pro is packed to the brim with premium components and Soundaware has a lot of experience manufacturing Hi-Fi components. I have the ZX300 and I love it but to my ears, the M2Pro sounds even better, especially in single-ended output. Does it sound $500 better? Well, that's open for discussion but believe me, this is one seriously good sounding DAP.

It has exterior design of mid 90's electronics... Its UI looks like from late 90's.
do you think these guys ever invested in any money into developing kind of product?
I don't see that. It looks like they just want to fool some rich hi-fi listeners...

I see you don't really understand what you're talking about but I'll just agree to disagree. It's not easy for a small boutique company to produce devices like this; the DAP market is very small and production runs are relatively small which keeps the costs higher. You keep comparing it to Sony products but you have to consider that Sony is an international giant of a company with massive resources at their disposal. Anyway, I don't know why you're trolling here. If you like Sony products so much then just stick with them, more power to you.

From when the value of a DAP is decided all by appearance?
I won't say we are good in the design, but we are good in the sound.:relaxed: Really good.
