Can someone explain to me how the head amp is used with IEM ? do you carry it around with you or just for home use?

Depends on the size of the amp. There are portable amp, and there are more desktop or home stay amps. For instance, the Pico Slim is a very portable amp. But, you wouldn't carry a Gilmore Lite amp around, more of a home amp.
