Hello head-fiers! This is my first post on this forum, although I've been reading the forum for a while and learning a lot about headphones. Based on all the reviews and information I've read I may have reached a solution for my next music making rig.

My possible solution is a beyer dt770 / 80 ohm with a headroom bithead or a m-audio audiophile firewire.
I compose bass-heavy melodic electronica (sounds maybe something in the direction of Royksopp, Fluke, Orbital and Sasha) so primarily I need very good and clear base. Furthermore I prefer a spacious soundstage, an open airy, not-too-analytical sound and some isolation (living in a trafficy environment).
I will also listen to a lot of music and I enjoy nice bass, so I'm leaning towards the "darth beyers"

I have three questions:
1. Do the beyers really have a detailed bass as well, or is it just powerful?
2. Do these amp/soundcard -machines have enough power to get the beyers to shine?
3. Do you have alternative/better suggestions on some parts of the rig?

I recently put Stax 3030 on order, primarily for 'music making'.

Original plans were for some Beyer DT880 and a Gilmore Lite, but I came to a quick realization how much more appropriate the 3030s will be for this purpose.

If these are too expensive, I would recommend at least considering the 2020s. The bass response is very neutral and should be to your liking. By viewing user opinions, bass definition is unmatched.

I have not heard these yet myself, I'm still waiting impatiently for them to arrive, but it seems they are amongst the very best headphones one can get for music creation, and ofcourse music listening in general.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Stax 2020s are WAY out of my price range (over 700$) although they sound sweet from what I hear. However, I need something under 200$ so I was considering the ultrasone DJ1/650/700 but then read alot about Beyer dynamic 770/80, which at this moment, sounds the closest to what I want.

The stax may well be the next step after 3 years, when I'm not a starving student anymore..

I forgot to tell that I'll be using my setup on the go a lot - from a laptop - so I need something external and as far as I know, the EMU 0404 doesn't have an external version. Otherwise, I would've chosen it for sure.

After doing more research, I'm pretty sure that the sound of the 770/80s would be just about perfect for my tastes so the remaining question is the soundcard/amplifier -part.

I don't want to go over 200$, but I will if it's really worth it.

How does the Headroom Bithead couple with 770/80s?
I want the beyers to show their potential - although I do realize that to get the absolute best out of them I need a +800$ amp.

If they bithead just doesn't have enough juice. Can you guys recommend some good external soundcards I could pair with a separate amp?

I was going to recommend M-Audio revolution, but then realized this was for laptop, and needed to be external
