recently, i've moved my headphone rig from my portable cd player to my stand alone cd player with arcam int/pre amp. all my other headphone cords are long enough, but my short Ety cables are way too short to even come close to reaching my bedside. i was looking into a headphone extension cable on headrooms site. the teds excellent 10' cable (89.00$) looks of high quality and is most likely durable. regarding looks and flexibility, Teds excellent cable looks to be the best and i have great confidence and experience in headroom made products. i do not want to lose any quality with any of my cables because i'd die if my ety's lost their greatness, even ever so slightly! but, OTOH, if i don't have to, i really don't want to spend 89$ on an extension cable...but if it'll maintain the same sound quality (i won't settle for any degredation whatsoever), or even improve upon it, i'll go for it. is there really that much of a difference btwn, Teds, Kimber, or the slightly less priced Dimarzio cable as far as maintinaing sound quality goes? i've never bought an extension cable for any of my cans before and would greatly appreciate any help any of you can offer at this time. thanx headfiers

I've never heard the Ted's headphone cables, but there IC's and speaker cables are very good. There is a good thread in the cable forum on most of the cables you have asked about and it seems like the Sonic Horisons are the best of the group tested. I don't think the Ted's cables where used though. You can find Sonic Horizons at this website. www.hcmaudio.com

now how different are each of the sonic horizon cables from each other? the sunrise, daybreak, and hurricane? and does anyone have any experience with these sonic horizon headphone ext cable? the sunrise (12') looks incredibly good and is considerably cheaper than any of Teds cable (only 10'). seems like a great deal! maybe i'll have to jump on it. anyone that can offer any more insight? thanx

I have a 16' sonic horizins hurricane extension cable. Now thats its beginning to break in (100 hours) its nearly transparent. My source (sacdmods 555es) and amp (gilmore v2 )are both exceptionally resolving, and the extension is maintaining the resolution to both my dt 880s and sr-225s without introducing any problems. The cable does seem to bring the soundstage forward and dynamics are subjectively slightly better, if thats possible. But the changes from adding the cable doesnt reduce the sound quality, you just get a slightly different perspective.

if at all, i would like a cable that keeps things the same or warms the sound up a bit. sacd, what exactly do you mean by more forward? i don't want anything to become brighter than it already is. but more slightly more dynamic, i'll gladly take that

The cable doesnt warm up the sound, but it doesnt subtract any warmth either. When I say it brings the soundstage more forward I mean the perspective seems closer, and with this closer perspective I am getting more bass punch and dynamics from the lower mids down, more so with the dt 880. Dont get the impression the cable is putting the sound in your face, the difference is subtle. The cable isnt adding brightness now, but it did before I got 50 hours or so on it. It smoothed out in about 10 hours and has been getting gradualy better since. Now with 100 hours? the cable is close to connecting the headphones straight in the headphone jack. Because the grado is already forward its especially hard to tell the difference between the grado with and without the cable. The dt 880 is more noticeably affected, but the slight forwardness should actually improve the recession that some people complain about with the dt 880. The dt 880 isnt recessed with my setup so it just sounds more powerful.

i was going with the daybreak 3 meter extension cable, but found out that with tax and shipping, it would have come out to be 92.00

i can't be spending that much on a headphone ext cable...right now that is. so, i decided to go for the next step down, the sunrise(52.00$ totall). has anyone experienced all three of these ext cables? the sunrise, daybreak, and hurricane...is there really THAT much of a difference between the cables. i would imagine that the differences would be very subtle and worth it to a person with a more expensive system than i have. anyone care to share their thoughts and opinions about the cable differences??? thanx
