I have not been successful for a long time in doing a DNS Flush on my PC.

The procedure I use includes: start > run > type in CMD > click OK > in black window at flashing cursor I type in 'ipconfig/flushdns' > enter . The message coming back to me reads "Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution".

Can someone please suggest a fix? I am running a Pentium 4, 3.4 GHz machine using XP Pro with 2 GB RAM and 200 GB HD.

Many thanks, in advance.

In run type: services.msc
Search for "DNS client" service, make sure its running. If not right click go to properties>select startup type as automatic> apply> then click start> then ok.

Now run the flushdns command, it should work..

Hi Ali:

Thanks for this information and help. It has not worked fully, but I now get some additional details which seems to point to the error.

Let me show that and perhaps you can steer me in the right direction: "Error: Unrecognized or incomplete command line." It then gives more info indicating 'Usage' followed by 'where' and in this section it says "adapter ... connection name" and this is followed by a list of 'Option' which does include 'flush/dns' . There are a few more sentences after that about 'setclassid' but I will spare showing it here.

I tried repeating the usual flush steps but still get the 'Function failed' message. During the repeated attempts that additional message content I have just shown above does not appear any longer.

Maybe this can help you help me more directly. I hope so.

Cheers.
