I haven't listened to either one of these headphones, but V-Moda's website has videos and long descriptions about the kind of stress tests they do on not only their headphones but also their cables. I'm willing to bet that the M50 is nowhere near as much of a tank, but again, I haven't listened to either one.

You can also buy about 3 M50's for the price of one M100, if that means anything.

Based on these cans both being "basshead" worthy, I'd highly highly recommend the M-Audio Q40's. They are also built like a tank and have phenomenal sound for the price. If you live in the US, you can get them for $99 on the M-Audio website (they don't have the headphone listed under products the last I checked -- you have to search for "Q40" using their search bar). The only universal issue with these is comfort. Lots of people think they clamp too hard, I find them to be nicely snug. Anyway, check out the Q40 thread and read up!

I've listened to both, they have similar sounding signatures with the M100 being more refined and better build quality.  Value-wise though, the M50s are a much better buy at 1/3 the price.  The M100s are nice, but 300 is a pretty steep price for them
