Hey.

I am a poor student, so I don't want to spend so much on a pair of cans. I listen to anything and everything.... mostly classical, and electronica though. There's also a bit of rock and jazz in there.

Anywho... I want to keep the prices as low as possible.

This is what I have in mind...

Sennheiser HD-497
Sennheiser HD-280 Pro
Sennheiser HD 212 Pro
Sennheiser PX200
Grado Labs SR-60
Beyerdynamic DT 231

I'm still waiting for a quote for an Ultrasone pair ... but I have a feeling that it's too rich for my blood. ($150+++?)

These will only be used at home, so I'm not worried about portability. And they will always be driven by a Mint Amp... so I'd want one that takes full potential of one...

Plus... I wouldn't really want to disturb anyone else because there will always somebody in the room...

My vote goes to the 497. Actually its the only one that I own that you mentioned although I have heard the 280. Between the two, I like the 497.

an e2?

from what i've read so far the e2 is quite good for classical.

however if you're looking for thumping beats, the px200 is good.

What's an e2? How much, where to buy?

^^

For some reason I really like the 280Pros... although I've never tried them lol. But I love Beyerdynamic, heard tons of good things about them...

How about the SR-80's? I've heard they have much better bass but aren't as comfy.

For some reason, the aesthetics of the SR60 don't appeal to me. Although that shouldn't be a major reason, it is for a shallow person like me

Since I do realise this is a big investment, I don't want to screw it up. So only if the SR60s are a lot better than the Senns or Beyers.... I'll go for it. Any thoughts?

I have the Audio-Technica ATH-A500 headphones (closed), they fit my needs perfectly (I listen to haard rock), they might be a bit warm for your needs, but they're comfort is basically unchallenged in that price range (they're $99 at audiocubes)

that other guy (forgot his name) is obsessed with the Sony MDR-CD580's, I like the CD780's more, and they're only 20 more bucks...the choice is yours

Just got my 280 Pros at Guitar Center for $69.99!!!

They're a bit uncomfortable, but seem to be getting better by the day, and they sound great...

The isolation is incredible!!!

My vote goes to the SR-60's then. They've gotten many good reviews in terms of bang-for-your-buck. The bass should please your ears, and if you want even more, go for the 80's.
