I I had some 5.25" midrange speakers sitting on my wifes desk for a week, about ~4 feet from the PC monitor. Getting ready to install them in my Lexus. Now the color is all funked up

Is there any way to fix this?

Go into the monitor settings and try a degauss (it's usually a magnet sign). That usually fixes it. If it dosen't work, I'm afraid it's finished.

From a distance of 4 feet those speakers wouldn't have any effect on your monitor.

I would just try to degauss before I messed with the drill thing, or just get a LCD. Either one. My CRT did some funky stuff with the color due to an excessive static buildup when I was first setting it up, but a degauss fixed it fine.

Another working solution is any device with a transformer inside. Could be a power supply but not a switch mode one. You approach the transformer to the screen and move it aside gently observing the color changes. It might be dependent on the direction of transformer moves so first trial might not help.

Not all monitors have a degauss button on the control panel. Many CRTs are degaussed when you turn them on. You can try turning it on and off a few times to see if it helps. Also, for the monitors built-in degauss to be most effective you should let it sit turned on for 5-10 minutes while components recharge.

To be cost effective, your money would be better spent on purchasing a new monitor vs buying a commercial degausser. I would hope that this kind of thing does not happen that often.

I would agree that the lcd monitor, is the way to go for you, if you can't degauss it.

Or you could just wave a magnet in front the screen in a circle a couple of times. Some people said that that worked.

If it doesn't, attach a magnet to some sort of stick and rub it in between your hands so it spins then wave it over your monitor.

I was thinking the same thing. The speakers would have to have some serious magnet strength to have an effect at that kind of distance. Are you certain the monitor problem isn't something else and the recent proximity of the speakers is just coincidence?

might be stupid but, did you check the monitor cable that goes into the computer. when u hit it, the colors get messed up... try unplugging it

I was going to try that since I messed up my TV with unshielded speakers close to it but I ended up waving a magnet around it to try to get rid of the color distortion.

My bet is to leave the monitor alone for a while and just keep turning it on and off. Because it should degauss when it is turned on.

If degauss does not work the first time it won't work at all, I think.
