Hey one and all,

I have a rather small yet tricky song analysis/review assignment to complete for tomorrow (apologies in advance for the procrastination, but in my defense the last two weeks marking the end of my semester were BRUTAL!) and its for my Producing/Engineering class. You needed to choose a song that you would analyze, review, and discuss the aspects that you feel should be improved or recorded differently.

I chose the song Masters of Revenge by Body Count, because it's a song that in my opinion (besides being terribly produced) just needs a lot more attention to sonic details and just a rework in general, so would therefore be an easy song to analyze since there's a lot to talk about...

My problem is that I'm no expert audiophile yet and I am therefore still struggling to describe the sounds I'm hearing. So I was wondering if you guys could listen to the song via youtube and give me some good starters on this.

Linky: www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=QZiT1MKLEmU&feature=related&fmt=18

Areas I'm supposed to be looking into:

- The overall tonal balance
- Overall Ambience (wet or dry, dynamic or compressed?)
- Sonic characteristics of the instruments (Natural or processed?)
- What overall effect was the producer trying to achieve?
and of course What would you have done differently?

Many thanks and much appreciation in advance to anyone who is bored and pitching into this!

Yeah this seems more like a perspective, individual taste based assignment, any opinions given by others will be their opinion on it and not yours. I dont think you can get anything wrong here cos its what you hear and feel about it, so take time and effort to listen to it on various setups and come to a conclusion. Start with the actual CD, or a lossless rip, try it on a low fi setup, and then on your best setup and then preferably on speakers (cos there are so many things you notice on headphones that you can't on speakers and vice versa)

Good luck
