I have a 2yr old pair of Shure e2c's and the cable has frayed near the top of the right earphone cord. You can visibly see the copper wire. I have wrapped this area with electrical tape which has kept the dropouts at bay until today.

All of a sudden I can't get any sound out of that side though the copper does not appear to be broken at all. Any ideas?

No responses yet but I did find the probable cause. Apparently the rubber wire sleeves turn to plastic over repeated exposure to oil from the skin. That's exactly what they have appeared to do.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Should've just returned them to shure within the warranty period. So you can get another pair that will have the same end result again.. then do it again until they fixes the problem.
