I am not sure of which headphones to buy for the genres of music I listen to.

I usually listen to moderately paced instrumental, post-rock, classical music and indie post-punk music:
- Adele
- Balmorhea
- The Calm Blue Sea
- Celine Dion
- Clint Mansell
- Coldplay
- Daughter
- David Garrett
- Emile Pandolfi
- Explosions In The Sky
- The Flashbulb
- Florence + The Machine
- Hans Zimmer
- Imagine Dragons
- James Blunt
- Jascha Heifetz
- Kenny G
- Ludovico Einaudi
- Michael Jackson
- The National
- Owl City
- The Script
- Sigur Rós
- Snow Patrol
- Tchaikovsky
- Two Steps From Hell
- Tycho
- The XX

I am looking for cans for around $250. They must be durable, closed, and full-size.

I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD202II's for 3 or more years and I am looking for an upgrade.

I usually listen to music in my house but it would be a nice plus if the headphones are portable.

For now I use a laptop, but in the future, I would have a desktop. Thanks!

I am currently looking into the ATH-A900x and the Beyerdaynamic Custom One Pro.

ps. I might edit this post in the future.

A900X are very good, but I was not a fan of the wing system. Also look into the AKG K550 and Soundmagic HP100 for a more neutral sound.

If you don't mind refurbished products, try the Sony MDR-7520s.

I promise you that Audiotopia is a legit dealer (I personally checked with Sony).  While I thought it was a slight risk buying something not new, I can attest that this was the best audio purchase I have made to date.

The Shure SRH840 is a great place to start. It's a very neutral can with a neutral can with a great balance between the lows, mids and highs. It's about $200 which is great since it's under your budget.

The K550. You'll be pleased with it.
