After having these Sennheiser HD215's for quite a while, I've decided that it's about time I upgrade. I've got quite a tight budget, somewhere < $140 would be decent. These 215's have served me well for quite a while, and I am without an amp. Being new to headphone quality, I am slightly more clueless as to what is fine for an upgrade. As I was browsing through various lists, the AKG 271 MKII caught my eye. Maybe it's just that sleek design that AKG has, but I'm pretty entranced by it, not to mention that I do prefer closed, circumaural headphones.
I've read in various places that AKG is higher on the treble and lower on the bass, but how much of a difference would it be from my 215's? I've also read somewhere that these are slightly better on the bass-end, making it more of an all-rounder (if my memory serves correct). I listen to a wide variety of music; classical, rock, electronic (techno, trance), and pop. I like songs with both clear, distinct vocals/instruments and the generic bass-beating/loud electronic/rock, so I think these might work.
This will be for PC use, so an amp recommendation to go with it would be great. If you don't recommend this upgrade, please do suggest another pair.
