Greetings,

I own Senn HD280PRO, Grado SR125, Senn HD590. I also have a Pocket Amp 2 v2.

My dog chewed my 280 PRO cables so looking to repair them. In the meantime I am looking for a pair of very good closed headphones. I will use them at work (90%) and in the airplane (10%).

I am looking for the following:

Ambient Noise Reduction
No Sound Leakage
Comfort
Good Quality Music

I have narrowed it down to the following. I also need to TRY to stop upgrading. Need your help in selecting the one I should buy. (I mostly listen to rock circa 1970 - 2008). Thank You for your help.

AKG K 271 STUDIO ~$170

Audio-Technica ATH-A900 ~$230

Audio-Technica ATH-A700 ~$120

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO ~$190

ULTRASONE PRO 750 ~$320

ULTRASONE PRO 650 ~$200

For rock music, the Ultrasone 780s are the BEST

I don't know if they're the best, but I do really like my 780's too. I only had a pair of Senn HD 590 for about 8 years and now got the Ultrasones, a very different but extremely appealing change

I'm using them mainly at home, so a good seal was one of the main things why I wanted new phones. Ambient sounds are reduced a lot and there's not much coming out of the phones when I'm listening to them.

So I went to our local Guitar Center and checked out the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO and it sounded pretty good and the build is very strong. Used my own ipod and amp to check it out.

Then they had the ULTRASONE PRO 650 and I liked it too but the case is made of plastic will it break?

They did not have AKG K 271 STUDIO but they did have AKG K 240 STUDIO but did not like them.

So what now? All confused..

CMIIW i think HFI is for music listening use, and Proline is for professional use like in the studio or something.

I recommend Denon D2000 even though it does not isolate sound very well, but good comfort is ensured.

I like ATH-A900 but it's really big.

@bimalh: Well, I must admit that I haven't ever had phones that were not made out of plastic, so far. As long as they're not too cheaply made and you take a little care, they shouldn't break too easily.

Could you really say no to these?

I will never go for ultrasone again after owning the PL750 for half a year. Seems like people either love it or hate it. I would go for the Audio Technica ES-7's if I were you!

Haven't heard the AKG's or Ultrasones, but I prefer the A900 to the 770's.

I owned PL750, A900, ES7, HFI-650, D2000, DT-250. None of them could match well amped K271S. If no amp, my choice would be D2000. I liked them a lot too.
ESW9 is another option if you are after a smaller form factor.
