hey everyone -- new to your forums...
I was looking through the forms for some information on the issue I am having but I didn't see anything that directly describes my issue...
I recently purchased an Apex130 boundary mic.
http://www.apexelectronics.com/index.php?tmp=4&id=18
As you can see from the link it comes with 25' of mic cable with mini connectors on both ends, along with an adapter that converts the mini into regular XLR.
I decided that since 25' of mic cabling was far to much for me, I would cut the cabel back to a reasonable length, and go straight to XLR so that I could avoid using the adapter. When I opened up the cable, it had 2 reds, 2 yellows, and ofcourse the ground which is wraped around everything. So what I did was simply pair up the reds together and the yellows together, wrap the ground, and then solder them into the matching # pins on the new XLR connector. All seemed pretty standard to me... cept when I fired this mic up I am not get lots of background static, and it seems to be tuning in either an AM or FM radio channel...
I double checked all the solder joints, and even re-soldered it just to be safe. I was careful not to over-heat the wiring etc... and I have worked on lots of XLR cables and jacks in the past never having an issue.
So I am just wondering if anyone here has ever run into this, or has any idea's? I checked the ground several times, and it is well grounded. I matched the wires exactly as the manufacture had them wired - since it was an mini XLR 3 pin connector. I also checked the line for shorts, and couldn't find anything... Any help would be greatly appreciated…
thanks
