Hi, I am new to the forum and need serious help about what headphones to buy and where etc, and this is the best place for me to find out :]
Over the years I have bought many pairs costing around £40 and lasted me upto 6 months+ no longer.
I have made a decision to up the anti, and take my whole listening experience to a whole new level of intenseness. I am a great huge fan of music, and have always had a technical ear, to make a song I like, into an even better one.

I'm looking to spend £100+ maybe a little more, to find preferably some Headphones that will have structure, rhythm and quality in the sound. The main genre's I will listen to will consist of drum and bass, electronica to a big extent, down tempo, trip hop, IDM, chillout and also very soft ambient.
I would like to find a pair that would emphasise hopefully the music I listen to and make me apprieciate it much more on a whole new level.

I am open to any suggestions and help, everything & anything is greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks

_Dave Roberts

First, will you need isolation, or not? Where will you be using them? If on trains, busses, etc., you would probably need isolation.

Do you want to restrict your search to actual headphones (as opposed to canal phones and IEMs -- in-ear earphones)?

Also, the exchange rates for various countries won't be obvious to many of us ... which makes it harder to recommend something in a price range.

Lastly, your first post -- welcome to Head-Fi ...

I will be using mainly on travel, so yeah I guess I will be needing isolation for them because they will need to be a travel condament,

Second of all I will preferably be looking for headphones, had in-ear for years now, want a change and something more structured & powerful

As for the exchange rates, so be it, we will have to deal with that.

In addition to the Sennheisers mentioned, two that are fairly well regarded on Head-Fi are the latest version of the Sony MDR-V6 (don't remember the new model number) and the Audio Technica ATH-ES7.

I think all three should be powered fine by an iPod -- many on Head-Fi will recommend a headphone amp, but that's something else to carry around -- and pay for. Read some reviews of these three and see what's said about power and amping. I realize not everyone wants to travel about with an amp (I don't).

the hd25-1 is your ticket to audio nirvana.

everything else (portable headphones) either lack bass or comfort for your needs IMO

the akgk81dj is good if you can stand the cranium crushing grip they place on your head
