Alright the time has come for me to do my first DIY project. I'm planning on re-cabling my HD 212Pro's and I have a couple questions.

First off can i just hardwire the cables to the drivers instead of using the silly plugs?

Second what cable do you recommend for this project? I don't want it to be to pricey. Other than these questions I should be good.

Thanks a bunch.

You do not have to use the silly plugs. There should be a metal tab on the jack where the silly plug plugs in that you can directly solder a wire to. Some simple silver plated copper wire from eBay should would just fine. Something around 24awg should be easiest to work with.

Excellent thats what i wanted to hear about those silly plugs. I am looking on navships right now and i found some wire. I have another question now. Does it matter if I get strand or solid wire?

Head-fi is the only place I see stranded wire recommended.

Yep, neutriks will do just fine

Some people may suggest switchcraft plugs because they're easier to work with since the body piece has a wider diameter than the neutrik plug.

Anyway it wont be a problem, in your situation since you're working with some thin wire anyway.

I would suggest you heatshrink the plug (prior to screwing in the body) to add some extra strain/stress relief on the cable! (Same with the wire leading into the headphones).

Excellent I will order my wire tomorrow. Now the decision on the plug. A Neutrik NYS231BG would work for this job, right?

Such a deal I've got for yah! How about I send you 4 lengths of the wire you're lookin' at fer free! It's 24ga, teflon coated, shielded, 19 strand, silver plated copper wire (whew), also from John's Wire Shop on ebay. The lengths are 8 feet long. I used them for exactly what you're gonna do: HD600 cable. I even have some Techflex that I used to cover 'em, but I had to splice 2 pieces 'cuz I didn't have enough in 1 piece to cover 8 feet. It's also yours if you want it. That is, if you can stand bright yellow (wire and 'flex)! All I ask in return is that, when presented with the same opportunity, you pass something on to someone else. Deal? Just PM me with your info so I know where to send it.
