Hi all I am new and all and have been doing my research on some brands/models of headphones. I listen to rap, techno, rock, classic rock and I would like something that will isolate the outside sound. I am looking to spend anywhere from150-300$. I would like something light and somewhat travel orianted. The ones I have currently looked at are:

Shure e3c
Shure 34c
Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro
Etymotics ER4
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro

Please let me know what you think of each or if you recomend something different and why? Thank you.

I recently got the UE Super.fi 5EB's..I needed something good for portables.

Isolation is really good (I can't hear anything apart from the music).

Transportable (a protective case is also included).

I'd go for UE Super.fi's Pro's (get the EBs if you want that bass extention).

edit : Keep in mind.. I haven't heard the Super.fi Pro's..just the EBs (

is that the only difference between the two is that the EBs have better bass? why do the Pros cost more then? Also do you get that microphone effect by tapping on the wire?

Over the Shures, yes. I have never heard Etymotic's products, so I can't comment on them.

I has the Etymotic ER4p's and they sounded decent anough, clear highs and mids, and had excellent isolation when I used them on the bus, but they were seriously lacking in bass and weren't good enough imo to warrant their high price. The HD280 pros are a pretty decent option but don't isolate nearly as well and are also somewhat lacking in the bass department, in that price range I think you're best option would be something lke the Audio Technica ATH-A900 LTD's if you can still find them. They're aren't too many other manufacturers that make closed cans as good a AT, although I am a huge Sennheiser fan boy

Keep in mind that Audio Technica cans are neither of those things.
