Okay so I currently use a pair of k701s as my main phones, but I'm looking for something that will supply killer and stout bass for when I get into those moods. DT880s my best choice here? I don't like the DT770s at all btw.

for what reason you dislike the DT770 ? just curious, cos from what i've read DT770 are more bassier than DT880/990...well, i'm a basshead too here...just tryin to help...have you heard RP-22x or XB-1, i read that them both are bassy cans...

I didn't like the DT770s because they sounded really really cheap across the spectrum to me, and the bass was there, but it didn't seem full to me. Yeah I've also heard of the RP-22x, but I haven't heard them yet.

DT880 isnt bassy can, far from it. Yes, what you didnt like in DT770?

Other possible cans that produce bass strongly: reportedly RP22x, and from personal experience Ultrasone headphones.

*edit* Oh, well...

Could be. Atleast Darth Beyers get praised from hell to heaven here. One of the cans I'm itching to try one day.

Have you considered EQing? That's what it's there for

If you do it properly in the digital domain, there shouldn't be much if any noticable degradation to the sound.

For the price, RP21's.

I think the bass in the RP22's are a little leaner compared to the RP21's. The RP21's had too much bass for me... but a good can nonetheless..

If you already have the K701, an additional DT880 would be quite redundant. Disliking the DT770 is quite understandeable, as the bass is slow and drowns everything. You may consider some cheap midfi-groovelizer à la K240S, DT250'250 or alike for the non-K701 moments in life. Maybe the D2000s if you can spend more money.

That would be degradation!
