so my favorite band has been animal collective for about a year now, I can't stop listening to them, and now this new album strawberry jam is great, ive listened to it like 20 times and I have a new favorite song everytime. is there any band out there that can get me to give ac a break a little, and listen to something else like them, if not better? if possible? that would be cool. thanks

o and i already tried pandora

Have you heard Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys? I know, pretty obvious, and not quite as weird, but that's where a lot of it came from. Some Kinks? How about Dusk at Cubist Castle by Olivia Tremor Control? Has a lot of that Beatles psychedelia. One of my favorites in that broad genre is Manitoba Up In Flames from about the same time period as Sung Tongs. Not as much of the folk-tronica sound as Animal Collective. Books? They've got it, though pretty subdued. Notwist on Neon Golden have it, but still don't get as weird as AC, and lean more toward Kraftwerk than the Beach Boys. Grizzly Bear has been doing something one might describe as Animal Collective lite, but still pretty nice, especially the last one with "Yellow" in the title.

Maybe try Mercury Rev Deserter's Songs. Great record from the late 90s. Kind of a quirky Americana bent on Pink Floyd. A solid 90s classic in my mind.

I think you might like Islands or Fish Boy. Good bands.

I found Animal Collective through fans of the band "Of Montreal", the two seem a bit interchangeable. They might take a little getting used to but the albums "Satanic Panic in the Attic" and "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer" are probably ones you would want to check out.

You'll either love them or hate them but you should try some of Deerhoof. I suggest the last two albums to get you started.

Also the new Menomena is pretty good.
