I have several Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab recordings. Including...

"Meddle" - Pink Floyd
"Dark Side of the Moon" - Pink Floyd
"The Wall" - Pink Floyd
"Gaucho" - Steely Dan
"The Dream Of The Blue Turtles" - Sting
'Nothing Like The Sun' - Sting
"Crime Of The Century" - Supertramp
"Bridge Of Sighs" - Robin Trower
"War" - U2
"The Unforgettable Fire" - U2
"The Joshua Tree" - U2
"Arc Of A Diver" - Steve Winwood

I bought most of these discs several years ago when a record store at the local mall called "Oui III" (...or something like that) was going out of business. They were having something like a "buy two get the third one free-type sale..." There were several other MFSL discs that I wanted buy during that sale, but it was getting expensive and I thought that I would be able to buy the others somewhere else later. I could kick myself for not getting "Ummagumma" by Pink Floyd. I had it right in my hands, but passed it up. I have tried to find it over the years with no luck. Can some of you music fanatics give me a specific lead or link? I don't really know what I would be willing to pay for it, if it's even for sale anywhere, but I would at least I would like to know if it can be gotten somewhere. It might be completely unrealistically expensive who knows. I don't know if it would be possible to get it new, or in like new condiition. I though I would put my problem out there to see if anyone can help...TIA

Probably better that you didn't buy it since it must've been a fake. They had planned to do it in the early 90s, but cancelled when they found the original master tapes had been severely deteriorated over the years. Hope your others are all "real" MFSL discs, but once the price started to head skyward, the pirate versions got plentiful.

I have always assumed that they were real. Is there some way to verify if they are real or fake?

Well, it is hard to fake the real gold ones, so if they are definitely deposited with gold and not aluminum, and are definitely pressed CDs and not lookalike CD-Rs, and have the stamped matrix number in the center, and high quality printing on the artwork, and real MFSL jewel cases, then they probably are legit. I'm no expert by any means, but make sure before buying MFSL that they really released that title. I think the Beatles MFSL CDs are still being offered on ebay

The ones that I have all appear to be real. They're definitely gold, they don't appear to be CD-Rs, they have a number in the center, the enclosed artwork and label printing seem to be authentic quality, they definitely have the MFSL-style cases (though I never particularly cared too much for them...) Where can I check to make sure that the titles are legit? Thanks for making me aware that there are fakes out there. Davey, are you saying that there are no legit copies of "Ummagumma"out there? That it was never made? I have seen copies that looked real. (which again makes me not so sure about the ones that I own...)

Sorry, didn't mean to cause you undue consternation over what you already have. Just didn't want you to drop big bucks trying to buy a fake. Check toward the bottom of the left column on page 4 ... http://www.pink-floyd.org/discograph...endix_MFSL.pdf

Hey, thanks for the information. Maybe my memory fails me and I'm thinking that I almost bought "Ummagumma" and it was really "Atom Heart Mother." I would have sworn it was "Ummagumma." I checked the graphics, serial numbers, and barcodes on the MFSL Pink Floyd releases that I have. All of the serial numbers, barrcode numbers and graphics are right on. I didn't save all of the "J-Card," and longbox packaging though. Well you probably saved me from a futile search and maybe an expensive counterfeit...thanks...
