Hey guys, im new around here. Im looking for a decient pair of cans (between $100-$200+) to get me started with. Ive got an Ipod 80gb, and Alo cotton dock, and Pav2. Soon i will be upgrading the PAV2 to a Corda Move.

Anywho, heres the type of music i will be listenin to the most, and i would appreciate any comments on what you guys think:

List includes (but not limited to):
Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Portishead
Prodigy
Metallica
Brand New
Creed

Blink 182
Metallica
Chevelle
Finger Eleven

And thats a nice short list..pretty much metal, triphop, and industrial/prog rock.

Thanks in advance!

I just recently got some akg k601's and i think they do a fantastic job with the type of music you listed. The only problem is that they are a real bear to drive. I don't know too much about the pa2v2, but i've used them on a headroom bithead (also a tiny portable) and it does a pretty good job. The upshot of that is that if you ever decide to upgrade your amp/rig, the akg's will grow right along with it.

How do the Grado SR60's differ from the SR225's? Looking at the frequency response chart shows these guys to be close to the same, on paper.

Actually, the SR60 and SR225 are noticeable improvements. Firstly, the bass impact on the SR60 is weak compared to the SR225. Next, the SR225 has a smoother midrange and are a bit more contained than the SR60 which is a bit loud for some people's tastes. Finally, the SR225's have more detail than the SR60.

I have all the bands on that list except one of them on your list. X2 on the sr225 recommendation made by Bozz_Keren and others as well. The Grado really shine with rock for sure

Ok my the looks of it, im going to be going with a set of ATH-A700's and Grado 225s (later when i have 200 bucks to blow).

Im also going to be getting a Corda Move..im super excited about that..it means i can take that and my laptop external hard drive with all my music on it, and have a high fi source where-ever i go!

Now all i need is to go to Circuit City or whatever and find a cheap, decient bag to tote all of my "portable" stuff around.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, and you will see my name around here a lot more.!
