You want an ornamental tuft on your noggin, eh?

(first definition at Merriam-Webster... second one, which is likely what you were going for, is flamboyance and dash)

Guess I can't really help much. My usual style of dressing is blue jeans, preferably very loose fitting, and whatever T-Shirt I find. Throw on a hoodie if it's cold.

I suppose you could go the retro/vintage route. It's in fashion, and fits both funky and junky. I'm not much into fashions myself, but if I had to pick one, vintage would probably be it. There is some cool stuff out there.

Either that, or the only expensive piece of clothing I'll ever buy... black silk shirt. Absolutely love the look of those. One day, I shall buy one. And love it. Anyway, that could definitely be flashy if you put the right pants with it. Or could go with the casually stylish look, if you paired it with some jeans.

just get a close/good female friend to take you out shopping, she'd be able to give you way better advice that suits you personally

You are kidding...right? Right?
It's been awhile since I saw any meet shots but my memory is of the gathering clearly divided between stereotypical internet geek types and quite older fat dude types. I recall no panache', elegance or style.

Me? I'm a trimmer older type dude looking somewhat like a Jerry Seinfeld who let himself go and likes it that way.

lol. Thanks for the laugh - that was definately true. (Don't worry - I'm not making fun of anyone here. I'm a terrible dresser, too. I just don't work at it.

Consider going in the direction that I went - totally black. I have innumerable pairs of black slacks, black jeans, black shirts, and a single black sportcoat. I even have black UE-5cs!

Advantages? Black is never out of fashion, people may mistake you for Johnny Cash and you never need to worry about coordinating different colors.

Well really the best advice IMO is to use layers...

If you want the preppy look, but wish to stay with jeans then go with richer color jeans, a white t-shirt and a dark solid color polo over it and wear a hemp/beaded/shell necklace. Fully unbutton the polo so that the necklace is highlighted by the white t-shirt.

If you want preppy with an air of class, then chinos (basically non-pleated khakis), white/grey tshirt and a buttonup overshirt (usually in a pattern like vertical stripes or some kind of classy plaid). Keep the overshirt unbuttoned except for one button 3/4 of the way down. The necklace would work here too.

If you're leaning more toward the geek-chice look, try to find a nice courdoroy or suede jacket or one of those retro track jackets & wear a ringer t-shirt (neck and arm bands are different color than the shirt). Dark jeans work best with this look. For shoes look to classic converse hi-tops.

Of course there is always the business-casual look where slacks and a ribbed mock-turtle-neck are worn under a sport coat. Very sleek and classy.

Just a couple more tips. As stated earlier try to always use layers; they add a level sophistication and style to an outfit. Also, get several belt/shoe combos... They should always match. Try to refrain from basketball or running shoes with the noted above exception. Flashy shoes have a place... on the court/field! Additionally, every man should own a good black leather jacket. Spend the extra money for good smooth (non-dimply textured) leather (usually ~$250 and up). It can be worn with virtually anything, is easy to maintain, lasts for YEARS and always looks good:

Leather Jacket+Jeans+black shoes/belt+ribbed mock-T = classy casual.
Leather Jacket+jeans+white t-shirt = casual fonzyesque badboy.
Leather Jacket+chinos+polo/undershirt = casual everyman.
Leather Jacket+slacks+buttonup = alt. business casual.

etc. etc. etc.

Good luck,
Jeremy

Me? I wear baggy jeans or pants (and even flannel at times) with a shirt (usually black or white) with a flannel shirt over it. I get the "lazy" look!

I didn't understand a word you said, by the way, jjcapurro - I think style is stupid... most people dress the same anyway. I dress how I do because I like it - but also because it's cheap and you can wear them many times without them having any need to be washed
