Last time I posted I was pretty much set on buying SR60 because I listened to only classic rock.

However, I've recently been getting into classical again, and so I'm listening to both pretty much equally. I know that the sr60 is supposed to be a good rock can and hd555 is for classical... so which is better: sr60 doing classical or hd555 doing rock? Or should I choose something else? (I won't be buying both! erm, yet...

) I don't want to spend much more than $100, preferably less being that I'm broke right now

Also, I don't really care if it's open or closed. Comfort isn't really an issue either.

I've never seen them for under $200... Oh and btw I have to order online because the only store nearby that sells at least semi-good headphones (Circuit City) closed down.

Oh, I didn't notice that one... I'll have to save up and pray that it isn't sold by then!

Do they need an amp? Maybe it'll also be helpful to say that I'll be running them out of my G4 iMac and my third generation iPod, if that makes any difference.

Yeah, the SR225s aren't great for classical. I'd say HD555 or HD595 would be a better all around can. If you're going all classical you'd be better off with an HD580, but that's another story.

But they need an amp according to most people. So.... 555 it is.

Of course, after I run over to Radio Shack to get those 9.99 ksc75's!

I'd say get the HD555's as they are a great all around can for the money. Then save up for a SR225 and a good amp. The HD555 will actually change it's sound with a good amp. Without a amp the HD555 has a deep bass and with a amp it tightens up. It has a very good mid's and treble sounds more airy once amped. But it's great either way and is almost like 2 headphones in one

heh. I was in a similar situation a few months ago and chose the 555's. They're great, but I wasn't blown away until i got (built) an amp.

And I just bought the SR-60s from the forums, and waiting for shipping.

I can't compare to the Grados as I've never used them, but I got some HD-555s for my PC gaming but have found them excellent for all the music I listen to as well (which includes classical, rock, techno, and just random weirdness).

Grado's have a tendency to be rather bright. Many do not like this, while others do. Its simply a personal perference.

As for the choice between HD555 and SR60, I'd go with the HD555. Its the better all around can. It handles everything well with slight leanings toward classical.
