the big 4 (IE8, se530, triple.fi 10 and the W3)

the ety er4 i think has always been just below the top and i think always will be, yes it sounds great and has fantastic detail but its lack of bass or rather its spot on playback of bass makes it sound not right. nothing else we hear sounds like it and for me the ety just always sounds rather sterile. some will love it others will hate it sound sig and it cant get universal grudging acceptance as being amazing.

thats why the er4 will never be sat at the very top table

er4p is like only producing vocals chords no "music enjoyment".

er4p/s has to be amped to for more "full sound"

Can you SE530 guys confirm these phones have long-term cable issues? I've just ordered a pair, and in the meantime was reading sometimes about cable-cracking, so I was wondering if I'll have to treat mine with extra care (eg never wrap the cables too tight around the player, always store them in the pouch).

As long as your pair of Shure SE530's were made in 2008 you will have no cable problems. Shure addressed these problems already.
