I want to buy a new DAC for my son to use in his 2ch rig-Parasound A21 amp, Pass B1 Preamp and PSB B6 speakers  He will be using Bug Head as his music player.  He is currently using a Dragon Fly 1.0 as his DAC.  He prefers a warmer sound.

I am looking at the Emotiva Big Ego and the new Schiit Modi Multibit. I like the fact that the Ego can play 32 bit 384khz as most music sounds better upsampled on Bug Head.

Any thoughts and why?

Thanks,

Larry

Since most CD's and FLAC music files are 16-bit I'd go with the Schiit Audio Modi Multibit, I'm kinda stunned that they're offering a true Multibit DAC at that price point. That Parasound Halo A21 is a very nice amp, I use one to drive my Maggie 1.7's and it'll sound great with a multibit DAC front end. Good luck with your decision!

I am leaning to the Mimby.  The A21 was my amp that I used with my Magnepan 1.6's.  I gave it to my son when I bought my Pass X250 amp which is truly a much better amp and takes the Maggies to a new level of pleasure.  The A21 is still an excellent amp with great sound and brute power.

I would like to know if the Modi is compatible with Bug Head.

Thanks!
