Oh boy... talk about overwhelming! Need a new player to replace my V100, which sadly decided to bail out on me

... time for an upgrade

.

Criteria, in order of preference:
- Durable/reliable
- Sounds good with low imedance IEMs, No hissing. Should be a step up from the V100. Sonic preference would be something bassy-warm sound, with sufficient detail resolution.
- headphone out should be clean enough and good sounding enough to be amped.
- Fast file transfer speeds.
- Capacity; anything 1G or larger, Flash or HD
- battery life; longer between recharge is better
- user adjustable EQ

Iriver T10 meet your needs. It lasts about 50 hours on one AA battery, sound really good (much better than V100, T10 provides warm sound), great user eq, The only problem is hiss: there is only a little, but with some IEMs you can sometimes hear it, but Shures volume control will for sure (

Kramer, I just moved from a Sansa e260 to a Meizu M6 for my portable, and I have to tell you, the Meizu is just a terrific unit. I'm sure you've heard much about it. It is the best sounding flash-based DAP I've heard. Tons of EQ adjustability, easily powers even full(er) sized cans, and a very nice featureset overall. It is teensy, but just enough heft to make it not feel cheap.

I've been listening to mine with newly acquired KSC75's, and the pairing is darn near perfect. I'd been testing some Grado's at a local brick and mortar, and I can't justify the cost now. I believe you're a fan of the KSC's? It's a really nice combo.

Good luck.

I read every thread in this section and finally decided to go with the Samsung T9. Seems as though it has the best sound quality, zero hiss, and 35 hrs of battery life. Negative is slow processing speed but hey all the others are big enough benefits to me.

Eh still going to toss in my vote for the Iaudio x5 if the bass/warm sound is what you are looking for. Still a very solid performer as far as sound quality/build quality/equalizer options goes.

Also the xfer speeds are quite fast.

Following you criteria, same order:
1. Zune. Durable and reliable but after less than a year out the judge is still out on this.
2. Zune. A lot of detail. Not hiss. Can't make sure what you want with bass warm sound?.
3. Zune. Clean headphone out. Looks for threads on these forums.
4. Zune. Quite good transfer rate using ZMP. Not drag and drop. yet.
5. Zune. HD. 30GB.
6. Not Zune. Mediocre batt life. just 10-12 hours
7. Not Zune. No user EQ yet. 7 Presets.
Take all these on consideration before buying you player. Thanks.

. I finally reached portable audiophile contentment with my Jays/Yuin/V100/Sweetpig setup less than 2-3 weeks ago. Wouldn't you know it the head-fi gods just couldn't leave well enough alone

Woke up this morning and the files on my V100 have disappeared. Plug it into my laptop and my PC can't even see the player.

Told you that Creative doesn't make good players
Did you tried putting to USB port your V100 without batteries and all the time pressing play button? In some players that turn on recovery mode and PC can detect player to load new firmware.

wow, $170 zune seems nice, but too much software related problems/limitations to persuade me to buy one

and hey kramer, try to use that "format" program that can be found on the cd packaged with the muvo. maybe that can miraculously detect it? other than that, i would just try plugging it in and out of the mp3 player and any usb slot for the next few days to see if still works. it might jar something back in place :P

its a long shot, but i find that some electronics tend to get messed up temporarily and then suddenly work again flawlessly. it happened to my old toaster sized gameboy.

Cowon iAudio X5L and the Meizu M6 are worth looking into.

They both have a VERY pleasing and euphonic warm, bassy sound. The Cowon does highs better but the Meizu is a bit more intimate and has slightly better instrument separation. They are both very clear but warm. I personally feel the X5 edges out the M6 in detail by a tiny margin.

Neither hisses at all with my IEMs though some reports claim the M6 to be somewhat hissy. The M6 doesn't show much differences when amped (I'd say it has a lot of current by default).. the X5 however sounds absolutely fantastic amped, even through the headphone-out.

Both of them are really durable and reliable though for whatever reason I feel more secure with the M6 in a case than the X5 alone. The X5 is the tank of currently-selling players.. IMHO its aluminum body is as (if not more than) hardy as the Zune's rubber body in different ways.

Both have insane EQs. With Rockbox, the X5 is an EQers dream. Its parametric EQ has everything you could ever imagine. The Meizu, on the other hand, has a 10-band equalizer by default with +-12 steps (might be 20, I have to check again). This, IIRC, is way superior to any other DAP with stock firmware on the market.

The X5L comes in 20/30GB, and the M6 in 2/4/8GB.

Both have amazing battery life; unbeaten if I'm not mistaken. The X5 gets around 30 hours. I haven't tested the M6, but it's rated for 36 hours with its latest firmware.

What software problems ? if any all should be resolve by March 20. 4 days after your purchase.

ey...BTW if looking for a flash dap, watch out for the Insignia Video with 4GB
Good build, SQ and replaceable batt. Expandible memory with microSD cards. 2.2 inch screen. EQ with 5 bands. batt life 30 hours. Video support.

Kramer, look at iRiver and iAudio - I think the flash product lines from these companies will meet your needs best.

My personal favorite, the Clix, is an insanely good player for the price, with an excellent headphone out (among the best of the best, IMO) that sounds great amped. There is a user-adjustable EQ there, and the presets actually sound damn good. Add that to the fact that it does video and pictures, and has a longer battery life than the new Nano, and you have a winning combo.
