Help JBL LSR308 Gear Setup

  1. WashingBeard
I've decided to dive into the active monitor world and am curious if I'm missing out on any gear. Monitors are JBL LSR308's paired with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, and connected via Mogami cables. The Focusrite then plugged into laptop with non-existent soundcard lol. am I missing anything needed?

    Nope.

But if you haven't bought the 2i2 yet, I'd suggest to take a look at the UR22 MKII.

Feedback from friends that used both, report better drivers from Steinberg, and overall a better interface.

LSR308 have a constant hiss if you set the volume to 10. Set it to 6, no hiss. Trust me, these things are LOUD, you will not need the 10.

SMSL Su-8 have changed it all for me. IF you use XLR input, you need balanced XLR output. Yes it works with RCA to XLR, but trust me, there is something missing.

These are used for my living room. The sound is massive considering their sound. And to get any decent sound, you need volume for these. DO NOT use these for near field monitoring. These are more V shaped than what you want from studio monitor, maybe the 305 are better, I don't know. But 308 are great for media use, no, awesome for media use. I would look elsewhere for near-field monitoring, these are not flat and you need volume, these will deafen you if you use them on your desktop since as I said, you need to move some air to get them to sound great.

When you read there is a bit of scoop on the mids, it's true. These should not be marketed for studio use IMO. Even with -2 db on the bass, doesn't change that.

None really. The 2i2 works fine with monitors. Hard to get anything better.

If you want to drive headphones though that's where the 2i2 has shortcomings.
