With the current deal going on (refurb old 5 gig iPod for 149) I am really tempted to get one. I am ok with the size and storage. I am mainly concerned with sound quality, usability, and reliability. Can anyone break it down a little more for me?

As far as I know, the old iPod is bigger, has longer batter life, and have mechanical parts that might be break more easily. Also the cradle the comes with the new iPod seems like a useful feature but I dont think it's essential for me. Am I missing some other features?

Line out outputs on the base is the biggest new feature. Everything else is upgrades or improvements.

I was looking for more direct comparison between the two versions. Basically had to sort thru the complaints of the first version and compare that to the improvement of the second. I think I will get one of the refurbs.
