Hi
rolleyes.gif

I'm looking for a pair of portables headphones, but it's hard to tell from the specs which ones that are best. Some canal-phones would be obvious because of the good sound in such a small package, but i'm not into that canal concept at all (i've had the EX71, and they are NOT comfortable for me at all.. and when i sing to the music all i hear is me
biggrin.gif
same when i eat

). I would like something better than those cheap earbuds as i'm used to a pair of HD595... but does that exist? Maybe the Senn PX series (but i've seen them mentioned quite a few times in the disapointment thread).

The hd595 that i own now are SO OPEN, but the portables must not leak any sound - does the px-series do that?

Right now, the best suggestion i can come up with the PX100, cheap, no-nonsense, comfortable (?).

thanks.

KSC-35. Not a canalphone or a bud, it's an earclip. Yes it's open, but it's pretty isolating either way as well. And the sound ROCKS. And right now on creative's ebay dump you can get it for 20 bucks. No brainer!

There are two PX headphones. The PX-200 are semi-closed headphones, and those are severely disappointing for a lot of people due to the lack of bass. The PX-100's are a completely different sounding headphone, they are open, and thus leak quite a bit of sound, very bassy and full sounding, and are one of the best headphone buys around for $50 dollars.

Between the PX-100's and the Portapros, your ears never had it so good for $50. Both are supremely comfy too.

KSC75... shipped for $15 at provantage. IMHO youre not going to beat that value. It IS open though but IMHO it wont disturb others unless you turn it up really loud. MOD the foam ear cushion with a socket and it really opens up... seriously starts to approach SR60 territory.

Amp it with a PA2 or go vibe and youve got a stellar budget rig IMHO.

the things sounding quite close ( in perspective..) to h595 I've tried where not ksc35 really ( which i've loved for part of my audio life ) but akg k24p , I think you could at least hear them and probably be happy for their sound .

If you need some bass ( less open sound though ) because you want them for noisy environment , shift to k26p ( closed k24p ) which are bassier ..

edit : I'm not a big px100 fan and prefer mx550

to px100 on the go .

KSC-35's are pretty uncomfortable for me....(good for excercise though), but I can't wear them more than 30-45 minutes at a time.

I prefer the sound of the PX-100's.

Both headphones leak *a lot* of sound.

If the K24P's are anything like the K26P's i'd suggest staying away from them as well. Only headphones that i truly regret purchasing. The mx400's were real cheap and the E2C's, even though they were horrible, at least blocked noise out.

Just in case anyone here recommends the Senn HD201, yes, that can is pretty comfortable and it's isolating because it's closed - but the KSC-35 just sounded 100 times better in the mids and overall in-your-faceness.

The PX100 is more laid back sounding, and the KSC35s are really upfront (hence "baby grados"). It feels like the 35s are providing more detail because of this. The PX100s does have a fuller and bassier sound. IME the 35s leak a little more, but if you use both at reasonable volume levels they'll be fine - but of course, how loud your surroundings are will be a big factor. I only use the PX100 more because I find them more comfortable personally. Also consider that many people use their KSC35/75s with ohm adapters + portable amp - this combination is said to provide a fuller and overall better sound.

Much like Jahn's comparison to the HD201, the ksc35s have a way better midrange than the PX100. The PXs sound muffled and a little recessed with vocals. Only a little recessed, not as bad as say...an EX71.

Burned them in for two days and there is absolutely NO detail from anything other than dead center. Almost like it's two different headphones in one. Right in the middle it sounds great but everything else sounds completely different and incoherent. Add onto that i tried to cancel the purchase TWICE and never got a response. So yeah... i don't like 'em.
