I am helping a friend (more fortunate then me because he owns a house) put together a whole house stereo system and I need advice from people who have outdoor speakers. He only wants to spend $300/pair.

I am looking for 2 outdoor pairs...one of them are going to be mounted onto the house facing a patio, and the other is going to be a pair of "rock-type" (not rock, as in rock and roll, rock as in Flintstones rock) speakers.

Anyone with experience have any suggestions. I know that Boston Acoustics and Niles and (ugh) Bose make them, but I'm looking for some good sound for a fair price.

Thanks in advance.

I totally understand price constraints, and if to want an awesome speaker that does perform well and will last in the elements,
Then Niles is the way you should go.
There is a reason why everyone makes speakers that replicate the legendary OS line that Niles offers.
And their Rock Speakers are the best damn sounding speaker in that market.
Check these links, you won't be dis-satisfied.
