Hey all, I was hoping that you would help me out with some advice on my broken headphone jack

.

I was all excited to install Rockbox on my blue H10 20 gb, but then I went and stepped on my headphone while the plug was still in.

I can see that the plug is no off center, and if I insert a heaphone I only hear the right channel. If I push the plug right, then the left channel pops back in. It's pretty much unusable since even a rubberband won't put enough pressure to bend it in for the left channel to appear (not that that is a good solution anyways).

So what should I do?

1. take it apart and see if there's something I can straighten but I've never done this and think I might screw up even more stuff
2. send it to iRiver to fix it if that's an option (my 1 year warranty is long gone)
3. ????

Thanks for any help.

Well if you send it back to iRiver they'll likely still repair it for you, they'll just charge you for the service.

The alternative would be to replace the headphone socket. If you open the player up and inspect the socket itself, it should give you an idea if this is feasible or not - aka, is it built into the chassis, heavily soldered onto a PCB, etc.

Either way, you're outside warranty so you cant void anything by looking, so you might as well.
