To all

I have an ELS system in my car that plays DVD-A and Cds. I want to upgrade my home system. I would only listen to music with headphones. If I wanted to go with a Grado 125 or 225., what universal player (how much would I have to spend) Would I need a headamp? Even though headphones do not give you surround sound, are SACD and DVD-A music worth buying and listening by headphones.I am looking to upgrade , not break the bank.

Thanks

I have the SR 125 headphones and I have been using them exclusively for about 5 years. I think any CD player is good enough for these headphones. I wouldn't spend any money on an amp. or a high end source.

I believe these heaphones have a relatively low impedence and they are easy to drive with any headphone out on your stereo receiver.

If you happen to buy a pair of headphones like the Sennheiser HD 580, 600, or 650. Then you will need to buy a headphone amp. or they won't be working to their full potential.

Good Luck.

I can only tell you what I know. I have a Sony SACD ($130.-) which sounds great through my amp (yea sorry, there is an amp in the game, see sig.), but it's an essential component for listening for me. There are folks here on this forum driving their cans with multi-$1k sources, so this might sound puny, but it works great for me. A lot is due to the detail the SACD delivers, while the amp and cans of course do their trick as well. The SACD is a great all-around component I use for DVD-A and movies as well, so no regret here.
