Help! Don't know how to assemble turntable! (large pics)

I have recently found a perfect Dual 1229 in my uncle's basement. He lives a bit away from me, so I had him ship it here. It was well packaged and arrived unscathed, but I can't figure out how to put it together!

This is an overview of what I am looking at:

the spindle:

and the extra parts I have:

What goes where? I don't get it! I can put the platter on the spindle and put the silvery round thing over the top of the platter. Do the other two parts mean anything? One is a knob of some kind and the other is a narrow rod about 6 inches high with some retractable stops or something.

EDIT: This may sound noobish, but what the heck, it's my first turntable. What is the proper procedure for playing records?

I got it figured out. The black knobby thing was the counterweight, and the other two bits are for a stacker, which I don't want.
