Hello,
I'm looking for a portable player but can't quite find what suits me
Here is what I would like:
-Good audio quality
-Good GUI with minimal extra features (e.g. I really don't need a video player, iPod-like GUI is what I'd like)
-Line-in! With a variety of possible recording qualities (some good range of MP3 encoding,+wav or FLAC). Also, a decent voice/sound recorder so that I don't need a microphone (as I don't have one for now)
-1GB-10GB or so (not firm, but I really don't need a 60GB player)

I've seen nice things about Cowons but the iAudio do not have the line-in capacity I am looking for. Maybe the X5 does the trick?

The iriver H1xx and H3xx series should have what you want. And with database enabled, using the UI is pretty simple.
