Well, first of all, i'm really a beginner with all these

headphone-things. (and i'm excited^^)

Anyway, i'm planning to buy dt-831 soon,

and i'm wanting to have a nice portable amplifier.

And by reading many peoples' comments,

i figured out that the META42 might be a good choice for me.

Actually i thought about building one for myself, but i have no

experience at all, so i decided to just buy one for my first one.

So if you guys can give me and advices, i'll appreciate'em.

And if somebody can be so nice and available to make a META42

for me, can you tell me the approximate price arrange of it,

and some details about it?

Thanks a lot.

HI: I think that JMT might have the time to build you a META42. Send him a pm or a e-mail.

Hi CarbonKnock,

Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet! (standard greeting)

Lou is right JMT is the man! I don't think eric343 is backlogged either.

I commissioned JMT to build me a Cmoy and you couldn't ask for nicer, more patient or knowledgable person.

It's really hard to give any real idea of cost for a DIY amplifier for a couple of reasons. Parts quality and selection play a big role. The Meta is highly customizable so it can come in many different configs depending on what your looking for and costs can vary widely between these configs.

My best advice would be to send JMT a private message and start a dialogue with him. Once he finds out your needs he can give you a better idea of cost.

Hope this helps,

Phil

Welcome Carbon! I'd second the support for JMT. He's very patient and good to work with and does outstanding work.

For pictures of the META, just do a search at this site. There are several threads that also have pointers to pics or actually contain images.

Also check out Tangent's website for more information on the META design as well as opamp questions, options, etc. Here's the link: http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/meta42/index.html

If you're into an ultraportable variant of the META, check out Fixup's Super Mini
http://www.fixup.net/tips/pktamp/

There's also a thread or two here about the Super Mini from Fixup.

Good luck!

Bruce

HI: The donation is to be talked about with JMT. I will say that it put a smile on my face. This is whats in the Max Out META42
Elna Cerafine 470µF/25v PS caps
AD8620 op amp
Stacked output buffers
Alps Blue 100K ohm potentiometer
Vishay/Dale RN55D resistors
Class A
WIMA box caps
Belden teflon coated 22g wire
Blue LED
This amp is a definite WOW. It takes 2-9 volt batt. Because of all the high tone stuff in the amp the sound makes whatever cans you are using sound great. I have been using the koss portapros and they now sound 4 times bigger and better than before I got this Max Out amp. So please if you get a META42 get a MAX-OUT one.

Hey Carbon, you're just across the bridge from me. If you ever want to hear what a Meta sounds like, let me know, we could get together.

HI: Good luck with your amp. I think you will be awed by it. Also if you can meet bill for he is a real nice guy and seems to always have his bag of goodies with him and is fun to be with. There is nothing like meeting another head-fi member and getting out your stuff and saying WOW.

Lou, Thank you for the kind words. I give what I get, and everyone here has been great to me.
BTW, good luck with fixing your 580's. I just got a pair of HD 600's and the sound really great. So I can imagine your temporary loss.
