Hi. I've been lurking around the forum here and there and recently purchased a MS-1. It hasn't arrived yet but apparently, it requires an amp to play from the AV-710, right>?
What should i get and where should i get it? i'm hoping for something cheap.. definitely under 50.

i did some research and would a simple cmoy be enough? i want to buy a cheap apheared-47 but i can't find anywhere that is currently selling them (and can someone give me a price)? The most expensive i can get is a PA2v2. The idea that the headphones require amplification is still foreign to me

and i have no idea what i need.

P.S. could someone also give me a place where i could buy these?

Actually for me this is a bit of a weird issue.

I started off my collection with an AV-710 and a pair of PortaPros. Well my card showed up defective and I had to send it back. The Portapros were great, and were even better after I received a replacement AV-710.

A couple months later I followed this up by purchasing a PA2v2 on ebay for $45-50. This was a nice improvement in sound, it really helped.

After a year I added a pair of MS-1s to my collection. With my PortaPros the amp made a bigger difference in sound, but the opposite is true with my MS-1s. In this situation I have also run into some oddities. In Windows had to crank my PA2v2, and crank up the audio levels to get decently loud sound. I don't really listen to my music that loud, but it was quieter than the PortaPros were. Now in Linux the sound comes through loud and clear. I know its weird....

Get the MS-1s, the AV-710, and if you feel you need/want and amp later go ahead and get one. If you are happy without it, that's fine.

I Currently use the AV-710 with the Wolfson chip and a PA2v2 to amp the MS-1's. the soundcard alone can drive the MS-1's with ease, but imo they don't sound as good with the amp because the AV-710 drivers are sort of dodgy so when u put the volume up or down theres sort of a balance issue where one of the drivers may be louder than the other (The older drivers don't have this AFAIK.)

I would recommend getting the PA2v2 amp because the sound is more cleaner and you get a bit more bass, on top of that Gary has A grade awesome service

Okay, thanks for the input. i thought i read that an amp is required for the AV-710 because the alt out was only a line out and supplies no current or something. I'm glad to hear that an amp is not necessary (for now).

I also use the AV-710 + MS-1 combo with no amp. The AV-701 can actually drive my ER-4S too, at rather high volume setting.

I'm getting an amp anyway, but for portable use

With this combo, the volume was fine. The quality was not. Imo, an amp is needed to bring out the bass.
