Whatever I use to wake me up, I learn to tune out after only a few times. Radio and beeps do not work, no matter how loud (trust me on this one hehe). So does anyone else suffer this same problem and what have you done about it?

Thanks,

Biggie.

1. Take cell phone.

2. Set alarm on cell phone, vibrate mode.

3. Stick down pants.

That oughta wake you up, or ruin your phone.

You could probably DIY some sort of system that will dump water on you when your alarm goes off.

Actually, that would work, but it's probably not a good idea.

Better yet, set your stereo on high volume and set the 1812 Overture to be ending right about the time you are supposed to get up. I can't believe anyone could sleep through the cannon blasts on my Telarc version. It's the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel. Careful you don't destroy your speakers/ears though.

I also have this problem. When I play live shows, I've gained a reputation as the guy who lies down and goes to sleep as soon as his set is over.

Rockstar behaviour, I tell ya. If I can sleep soundly with a PA thundering hardcore techno and noise at earsplitting decibels less than 30 feet from me, a wimpy alarm clock ain't waking me up. I'm often late for work due to this problem

I have avoided living on my own during co-op because I'm affraid I would show up late too often. I used to use my surround sound system as an alarm clock and one night my roomate left the volume cranked up before turning it off. So 8am, Howard Stern starts blasting through the subwoofer, waking up people along my hall and downstairs. This did not wake me up though and either did the banging on my wall and door, so the don down stairs had to come up and unlock my door and wake me up to turn it off. That wasn't a pleasent experience hehe...

Well, me, I'd get more sleep

Or you could take a look at a surplus shop (maybe www.sciplus.com ?) for one of those indoor fire alarm units with strobe light; they're designed to not only get your attention but make staying in the room they're in very unpleasant. The disadvantage is that anyone in the building will also be woken up, and think that there's a fire. Rig it up with a low acuating current relay on the alarm-speaker terminals of your stereo and put a reverse-polarity diode across to protect against voltage spikes resulting from turning off the inductor formed by the relay coil.

Alternately, rig up a mechanical oscillator using two big solenoids under your bed, connected to a car battery. If the shaking doesn't wake you up, your face hitting the floor (when you get vibrated off the bed) will. (the corrollary idea would be to use some pneumatic cylinders to tilt you out of bed onto a slab of sheet-aluminum covered plywood)

Lastly, and probably the most horrible and tortuous idea of all, just put on a Backstreet Boys CD in your alarm. You need to wake up in order to turn it off...

Two words: escort service.
You can have a different type of girl wake you up each day of the week: Mondays are Kitty the blonde "former cheerleader", Tuesdays are Carmen the "former flamenca dancer", Wedensdays could be Harumi "the former geisha", Thursdays are definitely Nina the "former KGB operative", and Fridays are Kate the "former (naughty) librarian". That way you will get up each day on time, and you will not be bored. That's what I'd do, but I don't have problems waking up now do I?

Alarms wake me up all right. I switch them off and tell them to them to go to hell and let me get more sleep, but I do hear them.

Man was I ever tired today...it was hard to drag myself out of bed because my bed was warm and it was rainy and cold outside and I spaced out through classes and everything. The bad thing was that my first class of the day is Music Appreciation, and the teacher uses a piano as his desk at the front of the class so he can demonstrate things using it. But this class, it was turned around facing the opposite side that it normally does. This time it was facing the right, and I was late and sat in the very front on the right side of the classroom, which means the teacher was like right @$%#!ing in front of me, so I couldn't really just fall asleep in front of his face as he was talking

I nearly dozed off anyway...that was a struggle, I mean he was playing this really sleepy, dreamy song by Debussy. When he asked the class's opinion of it, someone said they were really tired and it made them almost fall asleep.

LOL, I guess I wasn't alone.

Anyway...if I get enough sleep and get on a regular schedule, I end up waking up around the same time anyway, alarm clock or no. I usually wake up around 7:30 on weekdays, and when I don't set my alarm on the weekends I wake up at this time anyway. That's probably the most natural way to do it.

I really needed sleep this weekend and slept till like 10-11 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I've heard you're not supposed to do that, that is sleep real late on the weekends, because it throws off your sleeping schedule and then you're tired the next day. Boy was I ever...

And when I'm tired I make nice big, long rants like this for everyone

Maybe something that buzzes as CaptBubba suggested? A bucket of ice water as radrd said? Something that reaches out and slaps them perhaps? Oh wait, you said serious...seriously though, vibrating devices sound like they'd work very well. Vibrating devices...god that sounds wrong...LOL

Ah! Just what you need, NotoriousBIG_PJ! It's...the Sonic Boom Alarm Clock! That's right, for the low price of $49.95, this sonic marvel could be yours! (12V Super Shaker bed vibrator sold seperately, batteries not included, see fine print in font size 0.1 for details) And I quote, "The Sonic Boom™ Alarm Clock is a unique new clock that is guaranteed to wake up even the heaviest sleepers. When the alarm goes off, the user can select to wake up to any combination of loud pulsating audio alarm, flashing lights, or shaking bed (vibrator sold separately). The vibrator can produce steady or pulsating vibration pattern for maximum effectiveness." ROFL
