HI ALL: Ok I blow out my left driver on my 580s and sent them to sennheiser to get fixed. This time I have to pay for it to get fixed and senn. told me that the 580s were very old. Now about a month ago I got the right driver replaced at no cost. If it cost to much to fix I might buy a new pair of 580s at etronics for 160.00 new. Then I thought about the 590 at etronics for 165.00 new. Do you members think the 590 would be a good buy? I am using the Max Out META42 built by JMT. Is there a cheaper place to buy the 580 or 590. Thank you. After being used to the 580s would I like the 590s?

If you want to replace your 580's why not post an ad in the Gear for Sale/Trade column? I got mine only a few weeks ago that way......

Hey Lou,

Look for eBay seller hififorless. He usually has the 580's for $129 + $10 shipping. Think he even sells direct. Good luck !

Hey Lou, stay with the 580's.

Yeah, especially since you already have the Equinox cable for them.

Two drivers in as many months. Hmmm... how loud are you listening?

HI: Thanks BILL and all for your response. I will wait to see how much senn. wants to fix them and if its to much I will go to e-bay. The reason that the drivers are burning out is because I bought them used and they are very old. Now if I get them fixed I hope that the 2 new drivers will make the 580s like new. Any thoughts on this. Do you think I should just get a new pair or do you think the 2 new drivers will make them like new? Do you think that a new 580 will be better than the old 580 with 2 new drivers? The old 580s are in great shap other than the driver issue.

Lou,

apparently, the HD580s and HD590s sound considerably different. the HD590s are brighter. if you do buy the HD590s, make sure you can return them in case you don't like them.

i used to think my HD580s were the best. then i heard the beyerdynamic DT 770 pro. now my HD580s just sit on the shelf.

HI all. No offense but could someone please post on my post 3 post above and not recommend any other can. The DT770 pro might be nice but can you respect my post and answer the questions that I asked. Thank you for your understanding.

I like the 590's a bit better than the 580/600 series bacuse they are a little brighter and more dynamic. What surprises me is that you have a META-42 amplifier and while I haven't heard one myself I have heard several people claim that this is one of the best amps for the 580/600. For this reason you might want to consider fixng the 580's. I had Sennheiser replace an earspeaker in my HD590 and it wasn't all that much. I think less than $50.00 with shipping.

I hope that is helpful. Nothing beats a personal audition, though.

Best
Brian

HI: Man thanks for your post. I feel a lot better knowing that it only cost you 50.00 to get the new driver. A month or two ago I got the right driver replaced for free now with the left new driver I think that I can consider my 580s to be like new. I did hear them in my Max Out META42 before I blew out the driver with an other very strong source and by mistake went full volume and boom. But before that happened the 580s sounded great in my amp with my mini disc and was at a very nice volume and were rock-en. Very clear and rich and far from laid back. Of course I do have the equinox replacement cable and now the Max Out META42 and the 580s and my portapros are in a much different league than ever before. Thank you again for your response.

So, I take it you'll get the driver replaced? I don't see much point in going to 590s when you already have money invested in the equinox cables, etc. By the way, I prefer the 580s to the beyers as well.

HI: At first I panic and thought that it would cost a lot of money to get the 580s fixed and went nuts and over reacted and had all kind of thoughts. Now I am calmed down and after hearing that it might not cost so much to fix them of course I will get them fixed for I think my 580s are the best headphone that I have ever owned in my opinion. I just got a new right driver now a new left driver so I consider the 580s to be like new when I get them back. But I must admit that most of the time I use the koss portapros for thier light and airy feel but when its get down time I need the 580s.
ps
I got the 580s used and was told by sennheiser that they are old 580s so I think ma-by the drivers were on their way out to Begin with. Thank you for your response.

I have no experience with that amp, but can say that I am very pleased with my senn hd590-headroom little combo, the hd590's sound different than the hd600's, I just upgraded to the stefan audioart replacement cable for the 590's and all I can say is "wow!"
