Hello, I thought I would introduce myself a bit and leave a small question at the end.
I have been a fan of audio for a long as I can remember, when I was younger I would always ensue better headphones, looking for music that I could find myself lost in. At that time I suppose I didn't yet fully realize what I wanted - high-fi. For a long time I was also frustrated by the audio equipment I was often getting from retail shops that had more to do with marketing then they did with actual quality, and for a long time I bought into them because they where easy to find, and they where popular with most people around me. Still I wanted more, something better. Over the past few months I have been more or less enlightened with resources I found of audiophile forums talking about what the hardware actually was. Previously, all I thought I needed was a good pear of headphones and that was all I needed. Then I learned about audio quality and how its handled to get the best digital files I could, then to things like DACs and AMPs what tubes where and why we still use and want them, what cross talk was, and so on. I also found that what I wanted (needed) was more then a $300 pair of beats headphones and my phones AUX jack.
With all this I recently bit the bullet and got my self a set of Sennheiser's HD 800 S headphones. I have decided to take a even more serious approach to audio, and I understand that this new hobby of mine will probably involve a lot of cash and I accept that, but I need to start somewhere, and I understand that the HD 800 S is a level high enough where I can span out to other hardware with them, experimenting and exploring setups as I go - starting basic and then growing it into something much bigger.
That said, the headphones are being delivered tomorrow and I know I'm going to need a new DAC/AMP to properly power these things, and it's my opinion that my current sound card in my desktop wont due the justice. Right now all my audio files are digital on my desktop, I'm looking for a DAC/AMP for a desktop (and anything else) that will power these new headphones. I'm looking for something that I can get that is roughly no more then $200 for starters, if anyone has a few suggestions for me to look over I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
