First off, a little bit about me and my music background. I've been lurking for about 2 weeks, and I'm a 17 male beginner/entry level audiophile obviously. I love music, all kinds except screamo and most rock. I mainly listen to pop, alternative, punk, and some post-hardcore and classical. I don't really have a favorite band, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be One Direction (No, I'm not gay).
So, my first pair of "real" headphones were the Monster Ntunes. I know what you're thinking, and yes they are one of the worst headphones in their price range probably, but I was misguided. I broke those about 8 months after having them, and then I went without headphones for 2 months to be sure I bought a quality pair of headphones, and then I decided on getting the Audio-Technica ATH-M50s for $116. First out of the box I was slightly disappointed. They didn't seem as alive as I thought they would be, but then after just a few hours they came to life. They are almost everything I imagined. I would say I have a VERY STRONG emotional attachment to them now. It's kind of sad really.
I now plan on getting the Sennheiser HD650s in a month or so for home listening because of the sound leakage. I've read that these are phenomenal headphones, and I expect a lot out of them with a nice amp. If you want to make suggestions please do, but I will read other threads on how to properly amp them. I'm worried that once I get the Sennheiser HD650s I won't even want to listen to my Audio-Technica's at school and whatnot because I will see the quality as bad. That's what I did when I just had a pair of apple earbuds. I didn't even listen to music because the quality wasn't up to my standards. I'm just wondering what to expect out of the Sennheiser HD650s really and don't want to become disappointed in the Audio-Technicas I just bought.
P.S. I mostly listen to Pop music, and would like to not spend under $500. If any of you have an suggestions other than the Sennheiser HD600s or HD650s that would be much appreciated. I don't want to be misguided and go mainstream again.
