Hi,

I just got a heed canamp and when the volume is between 7'oclock (starting position) and 10 o'clock I am getting a hiss and what sounds to me like a radio signal coming through. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and found a solution. I have ruled out wireless internet as a possible cause and the sound comes through when it is not connected to a source.

I searched the Heed Canamp thread and someone couldn't find a place other than their garage where there is no rf/emi interferance so s/he took it to work and found that there was no signal there. Has has anyone found another solution or sent it for repairs who had this problem?

Thanks,

P.

First lets try a cheap and easy test. Go to the kitchen and get enough aluminiun foil to wrap around the heed. Now listen to it is the radio gone, if yes then you may want to get some ESR paper and lined the inside of the amp case.

I've had this problem. I don't know how much help this will be but I tried ferrite cores, swapping interconnects and using a power strip and none of these worked. Fortunately for me I live in 2 different places and I moved my setup to my other flat where it's dead quiet, apart from some hiss past 3 o'clock.

What I'd recommend is to see if the problem still exists at a friend's house some distance away; if it doesn't then you know that it's RFI at your house and not a fault with the amp. Someone recommended a Faraday cage, but I'm terrified of DIY/electronics so I gave that a pass.

I'll see if I can dig up the thread I posted this problem in before.

mrarroyo: I'm sorry I didn't see your suggestion towards the end of my thread; I'd decided to move my setup away at that point. I may just take it back to test this out; will be interesting if your solution works.

I had the same problem with a Gilmore amp in Hammond aluminum chassis. The front panel was metal and the case (and panel and pot bushing) was grounded with a single wire to the PCB ground. I only had problems when the volume was set between 9 o'clock (left side) and 3 o'clock (right side).

Eventually I replaced the Alps 100k volume control (blue plastic case) with a Noble 50k volume control (black metal case) and the problem went away.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but my brand new (just out of box) Canamp exhibits the same issues poiuy details.

Additional info: when I bunch up my headphone cable and/or move it around, the interference changes. Sometimes it goes away (but soon comes back) and sometimes I hear a faint radio signal (I can make out the DJs talking!!). My tends to go away after the 8:00 - 8:30 mark.

Very weird.

Same happens with my CanAmp, around the 9 o'clock position, the hum goes away. I've noticed too that the hum is a lot louder on my low impedance headphones, like the Grados.

Anyone know where I can send it to either get looked at or upgraded? I'm sure the warranty is already expired on it.

Thanks.
