I think it is a great $30 investment for getting one adapter that do both jobs (LOD and USB adapter).

I'm also interested in whether it "would improve the quality of the iPod output [as opposed to using the iPod headphone jack]". Is there really a difference as Headroom claims?

It is not about what HeadRoom claims, but whether there is a real SQ difference b/w headphone-out and line-out (from any LOD, including the SendStation dock) - and yes, the improvement is very obvious, as long as your amp is decent enough.

But there is a difference between the sendstation dock and say whiplash or ALO dock, right?Disregard the price of the three from the equation,I am only interested in SQ.

My belief is, cable, especially interconnecting cable and LOD that are only a few inches long, doesn't pay a major role in a portable rig. They are for tweaking at best. On thing for sure, a $150 LOD doesn't mean it will be 5 times better sounding than a $30 LOD. As for whether a LOD worths 5 times price for whatever improvement one might perceive, that is up to the individual to decide.

I am not big on cable personally, but there are plenty of cable discussion / argument in the forum that can give you more than a month of reading material if you search around.

thanks Clieos, ill search a bit here to get a good idea before i purchase anything.and certainly i agree that the price doesnt determine anything in audio equipments,i have been listening to my sennheiser px40($30) for more than 2 weeks with the micro amp and the ie8($450)havent seen the light during this period.i dont know why these headphones doesnt ever get discussed here, they are incredible for their price.

One fellow hi fi ee recommended to start inexpensively, Sendstation is a good place to start, and over time if you want to make minor adjustments think about investing in cable. But I don't think $150 to start with is that smart of an investment. Work your way into it ... I am a newbie in that way, and find it more interesting and satisfying.

I just got the one from Headroom with the mini-usb. Still waiting for my iPod Touch 3G but once received I will let you know. I asked around on this site and the SendStation was recommended as pretty good stuff so I ordered me one.

Well I've used the second one (Fat) and still got it. It says that the device isn't compatible with iPhone but you could just ignore that and works fine with the audio. Great little device.
