Hey

Im wanting to upgrade my headphones, just need some advice.

I currently have Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro (80ohms) i use them with my pc, my main use is for gaming, also music films etc.

Theres nothing wrong with them, but im thinking of selling them and getting an upgrade.

Any suggestions ?

Those are great headphones under the right circumstances. I would think that a nice upgrade would be a suitable headphone amplifier or DAC + amp to get more out of the same headphones. Underpowered, straight from a PC soundcard, they don't deliver nearly their potential.

getting them darthed is another great option for upgrades

Well i was thinking maybe better sound quality, more bass etc

Would the DT880's worth it ?

Could you explain what 'getting them darthed' means, also about headphone amps, could you name some good ones, i don't want to spend too much on an amp

I'm looking for good headphones for gaming too, maybe I'm getting the AKG 701 too, or the Ultrasone PRO 2500, or Denon AH-D2000.

It's hard to think of a headphone with more bass than what you already have. They are also generally regarded as some of the best gaming headphones there are. I am not a gamer, but I have owned the same headphones, and have experienced their sound with and without proper amping. Night and day.

Option No 1: Get an amp for the DT770

Option No 2: Upgrade to a better headphone.

K701 and DT880 don't fit here, they both lack bass quantity. You'd get less instead of more bass. So you'd better try a DT990 or one of the Ultrasone-Cans like the PROline750 (closed) or the PROline 2500 (open).

Its anemic and utterly powerless. But quality and depth is really good. DT880 is bit less anemic, but both headphones are aimed to be flat and doesnt pronounce any frequencies on their own too much. Quality over quantity headphones all in all.

I suggest you get some sort of headphone amplifier. Soundcard's simple amplification circuit wont drive them properly. Loudness wont perhaps be an issue, but quality, speed and impact would be.

After that, you could get them Darthed. Send them to Larry at Headphile.com which makes them woodied cups, recables them and does some other acoustic adjustments to bring those DT770 to completely new level. Search for Darth Beyers in this forum for more info and so on.

nothing really has more bass than the dt770 pro. you'll be very disappointed by the dt880/k701 bass coming from the dt770.

proline 750 perhaps?

I have k701's, have had dt770/250's and have listened to the dt880's. The 770's had the most bass (too much in my opinion), which is why I returned them.
I would agree with the recommendations to purchase an amp.
