Hi

I am sorry to open new thread, but i read so much threads and i am just more confused with every thread. My budget is aroud 300$ to max. 400$.

I want to find best headphones for bands like : Nirvana, Pink Floyd, RHPC, Guns N' Roses, Ac/Dc...mostly rock :)

First i wanted to buy Sen HD598 because i read a lot good things about them, but then i heard some people prefer Grado for this type of music and some other phones, so i am really confused now. Source of music mostly will be laptop and Iphone 5s. If i buy headphones for 200-300, then i can buy some cheap amp/dac with rest of the money.

For now i preffer HD598, but i just want to find headphones with best sound for this type of music. I want best what can get out of 300-400$ :)

I feel like I am posting too much.

First, for the love of all things good in the world, throw out all the nirvana music you have.

Addressing your question, I have very limited experience with headphones but I don't think the HD598s are your best bet for rock.  I think they are a bit soft and veiled with limited basse.  Great for other types of music.  Other opinions will vary.

Hopefully others will suggest other headphones in that price range that might be a bit faster and hit a bit harder.

A few of my favorites in your price range are the STAX SR-207, Yamaha HPH-MT220, HIFIMAN HE400i, and Focal Spirit Professional. Some of them you'd have to get used or on sale to still be under $400.

According to a Hifiman rep the HE400i should go back on sale right after Christmas and that's a very solid choice for the price (what I currently own).

Alternatively if you'd like something warmer and with a larger soundstage the Fidelio X2 is another good choice.

You say you want to connect to your iPhone? The headphones I suggested are open-backed so they will leak sound and allow sound to enter so they're not really a portable option. (Not good for walking around in public)

If you want something closed and a bit more portable the Mrspeakers Mad Dogs are relatively portable and improve with amping.

Thanks for now. And i listen to music only at home, but for now i have only laptop and iphone. But what about Hifiman He400i and Fidelio x2 sources? because i don't have amp/dac. I like hd598 just because i read that i dont need any additional things to have good sound.

I originally had the HD598 (and still do) and recently purchased the HE-400i, which are 35 ohms.   I can not comment on the X2 but it is very well reviewed and is said to have more bass than both.

For the HE-400i, the quality of the sound is better and the nature of the sound is different (faster, more bass, tighter, more clear).  I am just listening directly from my iphone 6 and like it very much.  It will improve with an dac/amp in my opinion.

The HE-400i is heavier and less comfortable than the HD598 (but that is not to say it is uncomfortable or too heavy).  Just not as a good.  I think as price goes up the weight might too, but that may not always be true.

All the HP mentioned are great and provide good sound.  The goal at this point is to match the headphone to your type of music (ROCK !!)  and maximize your bang for your buck.

Fidelio X2 and HFM HE-400i would both work pretty well. The X2 were more comfortable and had better bass un-amped. If you upgrade to an amp down the road I think the HE-400i would be a better pick.
