While getting off the chair... the cable got entangled and i accidentally dropped my headphones off the table..

they fell about 3 feet..

i freaked out... put them back to checkout any damage... i dont know if its placebo effect but the Bass is thinner.

Could i have damaged them? or their driver?

Can headphones get damaged so easily?

It depends on the construction. Some are very durable and built like tanks - Beyerdynamic DT48 and Sennheiser HD25 are described to be built like that. On the other hand if my Denon D2000 took some free falling I'm pretty sure, there would be significant structural damage to them.

Did they fall onto carpet or onto a pile of electrically charged acid spikes?

It's placebo.

If you had really damaged them you would know. You brain is telling you that you dropped them therefor they must be damaged. If they were damaged, I don't think it would just thin out the bass.

If you're still under warranty, get them replaced. At least then you'll be sure.

The 555s are light and tough.

My pair was once thrown 14 feet across a room into a wall and suffered zero damage. They can't hurt themselves too bad under their own weight.

I wouldn't let it worry you, most headphones are robust enough to survive a drop like that, especially since the driver is protected in the middle of the headphone. I can't imagine anything that could be caused by a 3 foot drop that would change the sound, it's likely physco-sematic.

Most probably placebo.
Perhaps you can borrow another pair to compare?

Anyhoo. Let's a call it a placebo before some unhappy DT770 owner starts throwing with their headphone to get the bass thinner.
