Dear Headfi users

I've recently made the switch from the MD world to the Dap world and purchased a Ipod 5g 30gb.

I had Ex71's which i was more than happy with when i was listening to my MD (MZR-900 n MT888)... however no listening to the ipod they sound a little muddy, to the extent that they sound much nicer with the standard acoustic ipod eq setting, than when played un-eq'd, a bad thing because the eq will make bass distort on certain tracks.

Can anyone recommend a set of either ear buds or cans? Which are a slight upgrade from the EX71's?

Are Ety-6i's worth it? Or should i be going for Grado Sr-80's?

It will be for portable use, but i could use the Ex71's for portable use and something else for home use?

Suggestions welcome...

Cheers guys

These are some of the cans that sound tons better than the EX71's and are worth the money. I've listened to 90% of them, but some of them, I took them just from other reviews.

* = especially recommended for price.
Prices are for new items.

Here's a list of IEM's:

Sennheiser CX300: $60 shipped in most places
*Creative EP630: $30 shipped in most places
Sharp HP-MD33S: $43 shipped at Audio Cubes
*JVC HP-FX55: $20 shipped on eBay (may not be on there anymore)
SkullCandy Smokin' Buds: $20 shipped on eBay
Etymotic ER6i: $80 - $90 shipped from good sellers (on head-fi)

Normal headphones:
*Sennheiser PX100: $40 - $50 shipped at most good places
*audio-technica ATH-FC7: $36 + shipping ($5) at Bluetin.com
*Philips SBC-HP460: $30 shipped on Amazon.com
Grado SR60: $70 + shipping from TTVJ

Clip-ons:
KOSS KSC75: $13 shipped from Amazon.com

I think that should cover most of the step-up cans from those ugly sounding EX71's.

I think the SR80 is like a really big jump from the EX71SL.
They are not perfect but has some serious bass with lots of energy in them.
Or should you go all the way to MS1?

THe KSC-75 is also a very good upgrade from the EX71 at cheap price.
Do note that both the MS1 and the KSC-75 do not have the isolation like the EX71.
