This is just a question out of curiosity about modding headphones. I assume this would be the correct section. How do you know if a pair of headphones are worthy of re-cabling or modding? Is it just trial and error? Give it a try as see what the difference is type thing?

1) See what it is about the headphone which you hate
2) Look for a mod which fixes your headphone's weakness
3) ????
4) PROFIT!!!!

Just don't be caught in the 'mod for the sake of modding' mentality. Not all mods are necessarily an improvement. Questions?

I say just do it for the fun factor...who cares if it doesn't do anything...DO IT!

Modding can be really really cheap or really really expensive. All depends what you want out of your mod

I guess it depends on a lot of factors:
* Their cult status or rarity.
* How you like them in the first place.
* If you think you can improve them.
* If someone else have posted instructions of the modifications.
* Your DIY skills.
* Your tools available.
* Your wallet.
* ...

For me, try reversible mods first

One of the example mods that are reversible is swapping pads(if your headphone does accomodate pad replacement), or putting paper towel in between the pads and the driver.
