OK, not literally a 8in woofer but something very bassy. Sometimes I want a ton of bass especially when I listen to electronic music or a song with some very low end lows.

Preferably closed-back headphones.

Would the Beyerdynamic 770 250ohms be a good candidate?

Possibly. An 8" sub comparison doesn't tell much about your expectations. Sub build/design, room size where a sub is used, and (sometimes) distance from the listening position all greatly affect sub performance, and 8" subs are not too great at filling a larger room with bass anyway.

The DT770s does have good bass emphasis and good bass SQ for the price. Also, if you use EQ, you could always crank the bass a little more, just like turning up the gain (volume) on a sub :)

The DT770 250 ohms do typically need an amp or other device designed for higher impedance headphones. What devices (make/model) will you be plugging them into?
