Hi headfi Im new here and ive been lookin around and alot of members on the forum are into really expensive analytical headphones that allow the listener to catch every detail. Correct me if Im wrong but alot of people on here dont like bose, sony, and monster because they are not the analytical type of headphone. Well ill cut to the chase and what I am looking for is a headphone that I can plug into my ipod and can make my mp3s i bought off itunes sound the best they can be without amps. I don't want the headphones to bring out the flaws in my music I just want the music to make me feel good. I mostly use headphones on the go. I currently use sony mdr-w10 (Sony Headphones MDR-W10 Walkman, MP3, Ipod L@@K - eBay (item 280462191988 end time Mar-09-10 08:58:47 PST)) and they are awesome, I was considering the senn hd25-1 II. Any suggestions would be great. thanks in advance.

audio technica ATH-ES7, very easy to drive (an ipod doesnt struggle), considered portable, and sound great.

Im Not 100%, as ive never listened to them straight from an ipod, but i would think the HD25 I-II would put a stain on the ipod. they are double the impedance of the es7's, making them (more) power hungry

Creative Aurvana Live!

My 128 kbps WMAs sounded sweet. 320 kbps WMAs sounded much much better. The CAL!s are balanced and very detailed so sometimes you hear something a bit more. The bass on the CAL!s is a bit of a problem. I no longer have the CAL!s but if you like its overall sound it's a good option.

Bose Triports make over-compressed, dynamically-limited music "sing"!

As one-dimensional as VALIENTE's recommendations are, I would agree that a Grado is going to make you enjoy the music and not the sound files. But since you're using a small portable now I assume you'll be moving around with these a lot. Grados are downright embarrassing in public (that is, until your typical Skullcandy wearer gets a taste of the sound). You'll probably want half-stylish closed headphones like the ones mostly already mentioned. If you don't mind bleeding sound and hearing your neighbor/bus, the KSC75 is a good non-ugly open clip-on that's fantastic for the price.

Are you turned off by the idea of sticking little IEMs into your ears?

I auditioned these at Urban Outfitter's (of all places) and they're surprisingly very good.

The HD 25 I II are not going to put a strain on your ipod...they would work fine. Having said that, I would suggest going the ES7 route as well. When you upgrade your source you can always go for better cans.

The sennheiser MX 560 are solid performers for portable music players and ipods, they are a nice replacement for apple headphones.

dude, you have st. vicient album cover as your avatar. That is exactly the kind of music that Urban Outfitters play! I wish more non-headphone specialists would sell nice headphones... more stockists could lower prices.

thanks you guys are really helpful, I never knew that the ipod was such a terrable audio source, really my music isnt that bad of quality half of it is off of cds and the other half is off of itunes which is decent quality. I suppose I could invest in a portable amp like the nuforce icon mobile

ALO Audio) if it would really allow me to get the most out of my music. I really have heard great things about the grados but the thing is if im at home i usually prefer listening to my stereo so I need something mobile. I really dont like iems that much, I almost bought a pair of westone 3s but the more I thought about it the less I liked them, I really like the sound stage of a larger can. I prefer the sq5 over the es7 because ive heard the es7 are uncomfortable. I like how these look classy but im sure they sound terrible.

Strange - I auditioned these [albeit only for a short while], and I wasn't much of a fan at all. I found them pretty uncomfortable though, so I was kind of in a rush to take them off.
