im am 'teh noob' when it domes to headphones, so plz help. i would like some headphones that can double as speakers when turned up (only enough quality to tell its muzac and only loud enough to let a small group hear)... if there is such a thing. obviously, i would think, it degrades the headphones/sound quality. but, is there a set of headphones out there that can do this and last for a long time?
hopefully
if not, ill just go with the mdr-v6's and... SHARE the headphones

You don't want to do that with any decent headphones, and even then, you won't find many that will work. I guess grados will do the job, but once again, not worth it.

v6 coulod do that, with sharp treble and powerful bass, it could go the distance further. although the sound quality for individual leave more to desire.

i find my dt660 can go low enough and still sound very clear. though its $200 and not worth taking the risk damaging the driver.

there's always the akg k1000s, which even when not "turned up" are clearly audible to all within a rather large radius of the listener. i'm sure you're not looking for something like this, though. when i had the v6s, they did get loud enough out of a portable volume jack to almost suit your purpose, but as you said, of course the quality was not good at all.
